Upon arrival in the capital, you are met by your Blueflower representative who assists you with formalities and sees you boarding your next flight in no time. As you fly towards the East Province and South Luangwa, a vast wilderness unfolds beneath: all the possibilities and great photos that await! You arrive at your camp by the Luangwa river and join the sundowner, the most honoured of all safari traditions.
Getting that perfect shot is often a matter of waiting. In South Luangwa it is more often a matter of choosing. The amount of wildlife supported by the river ecosystem is huge, and where herbivores thrive, predators are not far behind… This area is known for its large lion prides and a great spot to capture them in action.
After three nights in your first camp, it’s time to explore a little further. In your next camp, near the Mwamba River, you will enjoy many more photographic opportunities, some of them not all that conventional. During night drives, bats are a common sighting and the cry of the impala lead you to the action. During the day, an elephant hide will provide some amazing shots, since herds abound in this area.
The final leg of your journey takes you to the Lower Zambezi. This national park is Zambia’s equivalent to Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools, just across the river. This imposing are features large herds of elephant and buffalo, and the mind-boggling biodiversity associated with riverine ecosystems. In a water safari, you will be able to approach huge herds with safety and capture photographs that would seem impossible. From your camp you will be able to sit back with your gin & tonic and watch the elephants feed on the Acacia trees just beyond. Impressive elephant bulls gather in this area.
