You arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. There are some transfers and an airstrip flight. You are going to a remote corner of Tarangire National Park, so it is understandable. Millions of years ago, a huge volcano collapsed under its own weight and left a huge caldera to the southeast of Serengeti. This magical landscape plays host to a very high density of wildlife. In another time of the year, you would see a plethora of migrating herbivores. It does not matter… as it is, you have seen more animals than you thought possible.
It is time to move into Serengeti. This is what you have come for: The Great Migration. Millions of animals are on the move, chasing greener pastures. In their wake, come a host of predators. The yearly travellers must wade dangerous rivers, where deadly jaws await in hiding. The prides gather their strength and use their cunning to hunt. It is awe inspiring. You had imagined you would be following a large herd of wildebeest. You had no idea of the magnitude. You fly from camp to camp, and you find yourself still in the midst of this incredible march of life.
After all the excitement, there is nothing better than relaxing next to the sea, on your private veranda. In the island of Zanzibar, you spend a couple of days relaxing by the pool, kayaking on the blue waters, and diving with turtles. Everything moves, everything travels… you have just witnessed one of the greater movements of nature. However, there is nothing wrong with stopping for a moment, and enjoy.
