Arrival at Murmansk, Russia. The long days give this region a strange feel. You are briefed by the crew and when you look towards the port, you see a huge red colossus: on this, you will follow in the footsteps of explorers, and venture to the top of the world.
The journey north is a gripping journey ever northward. You learn of the ships capabilities, and you venture on a helicopter to better survey the landscape. This is exploration on a different level. You are truly in the middle of nowhere, miles and miles from the warmth and the world. In a few days you will reach the North Pole, as far away as you could be, as you wanted to be.
Words do not suffice to tell of the North Pole experience, so I will leave that part to your imagination. On the journey south you explore Franz Joseph Land, an archipelago where you can enjoy polar activities, take a dip in the icy water, and enjoy the fauna, including the enormous polar bear.
As you continue south, you come to the realisation that you and your fellow travellers are now part of a select group of people in the history of humanity: those that have stood in the North Pole, and returned to tell the tale. The time you spend with your friends is precious, now that life appears before you from the eyes of the explorer.
